Vol. 48 Introduction - Serial 102
This was not really a campaign, as few battles took place beyond the Mississippi River after the clumsy Red River Campaign. There were plenty of little skirmishes and patrols, all generating reports and correspondence. It was not easy arranging the Confederate surrender, especially for all the scattered posts on the frontier.
Also on the frontier was a third force: the Native Americans, who had not changed their views about farmers moving onto their land. The Army had to patrol the frontier, and also undertook the Powder River Campaign.
This volume finishes up the correspondence, orders, reports etc. about operations beyond the Mississippi River in 1865.
