SIR: In the enemy's works exposed to our view we can only count thirty pieces of artillery in position. The enemy is still at work along that portion of their line throwing up intrenchments.

Major-General FRENCH,

Commanding Third Corps:

The major-general commanding directs that you send a brigade at once to Parker's Store, on the Orange Court-House plank road, to support the cavalry of General Gregg at that point. This brigade will be held ready to move at any moment. The officer that brings this dispatch knows the road to Parker's Store, and will accompany the commanding officer of the brigade.

You will also send a brigade to the old Wilderness Tavern, at the intersection of the turnpike and Germanna plank road, to support the cavalry at that point. It will be held ready to move at any moment.

The brigades sent should be strong. They will be under the general direction of General Gregg, commanding the cavalry.

GENERAL: You will detail a strong brigade, to report to General Gregg at Parker's Store, on the plank road, to support cavalry now at that place. They will proceed immediately, under the guidance of Lieutenant Wade, Sixth U. S. Cavalry. Upon arrival there they will be held in readiness to move at a moment's notice.
