Series I, Volume XIX contains two parts of material relating to operations in Northern Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania from September 3, 1862 to November 14, 1862. Part One is reports from September 3 to September 20, 1862 and includes reports by Major General Henry Halleck, and Major General George B. McCellan of the Union Arm; and General Robert E. Lee of the Confederate Army. This volume covers the Maryland Campaign, which includes the Battle of Antietam (Battle of Sharpsburg). Part Two is reports from September 20 1862 through November 14, 1862 and correspondence from September 3, 1862 to November 14, 1862.
