Vol. 12 Introduction - Serial 17

Series I, Volume XII covers operations in Northern Virginia, West Virginia, and Maryland, from March 17, 1862 to September 2, 1862. Parts One and Two contain reports while Part Three makes up correspondence orders, and returns. Topics include, the record of the Court of Inquiry for General McDowell, the Battle of Kernstown, Operations i the Shenandoah Valley, the action at Lewisburg, the Battle of Cedar Run, the Northern Virginia Campaign, and the Court-Martial of John Porter

Part Two of Series I, Volume XII is reports pertaining to operations in Northern Virginia, West Virginia, and Maryland, from March 17, 1862 to September 2, 1862 and is made up of Serials 16 and 17 with Serial 17 being a supplement. Part Two contains reports by Major General Henry Halleck and and Major General John Pope, both of the Union Army. Also included are reports from Confederate General Robert E. Lee, Lieutenant General James Longstreet, Major General James E. B. Stuart and Brigadier General John B. Hood. Serial 17, supplement, is the proceedings of the general court-martial of Major General Fitz John Porter.
