
Greek Statesman
Demosthenes was a Greek statemans and orator in ancient Athens. He used his influence to oppose the rule of Philip II of Macedon and his son, Alexander the Great and sought to restore Athen's supremacy. Demosthenes helped to lead Athens in a failed attempt at independence against Macedonia. He committed suicide in order to avoid imprisonment by Alexander's successor.
