
Major General
Alexander Stewart was an ensign in the 37th Regiment of Foot on April 8, 1755. He commanded a field force at Orangeburg and fought at the Battle of Eutaw Springs during the American Revolutionary War. He was appointed Lieutenant-Colonel of the 3rd Foot on July 7, 1775. Then he became a Colonel in the army on May 16, 1780 and was promoted to Major-General on April 28, 1790. He was the Member of Parliament (MP) for Kirkcudbright Stewartry from 1786 to 1794. On November 20, 1793, he became Colonel of the 2nd The Queen's Royal Regiment of Foot. He served in the Duke of York's army during the Flanders Campaign. He returned home died on December 16, 1794.
