Atomic bomb explodes on Hiroshima
The Atomic Bomb (1945)

"Little Boy" detonated at 8:15 in the morning, releasing its awesome destructive force and killing over 100,000 people instantaneously. Three days later, on August 9, 1945, another B-29 bomber dropped a second atomic bomb "Fat Boy," this time on the city of Nagasaki, Japan, killing nearly 75,000 people. The devastating effects of the two atomic bombs hastened an end to the war in the Pacific and prevented what could have been over 100,000 casualties if the United States had had to invade Japan itself.
