Department of Defense Photo (USMC) A151000 BGen Richard E. Carey is pictured on the bridge of the attack aircraft carrier USS Han-cock while visiting with BIT 1/9 and HMH-463. Gen Carey, the 9th MAB commander, served on the Hancock many years earlier as a corporal in its Marine detachment.

USS Okinawa with HMH-462 aircraft embarked steams along the coast of South Vietnam on 18 April 1975. At that date Okinawa had been at sea almost continuously since February 1975 and therefore often was underway with only three of its four boilers working.
