men who had been with us said: "We will, of course, we have got Jeff. Davis."I asked them what reward, and one replied: "Didn't you know

there is one hundred thousand dollars reward for the capture of Davis?" I said no, I did not. He said: "Well, there is." I replied to him: "If that is so, I now know why Pritchard ran around us when he said he was going to stay at the ferry." I heard the reward talked of by other Michigan men, frequently in the next few days.
