Statement of Sergeant Hussey.

My name is George G. Hussey; I was a sergeant in Company D, First Regiment, Wisconsin Cavalry. I was one of a detachment of the First Wisconsin Cavalry under Colonel Henry Harnden sent in pursuit of Jeff. Davis, the President of the Southern Confederacy, and I was present at his capture. It was on the morning of May 10, 1865, and before daylight that we were called to stand to horse. It was then that Colonel Harnden said to me: "Sergeant Hussey, you will take six men and ride a little in advance, keep a sharp lookout and report to me anything you see, for we are close up to the enemy, and will probably strike them this morning, so be very careful.
