OREGON

In 1860, the state of Oregon contained a population of 52,456 people, of which 15,477 were males between the ages of 15 and 39. Safe from the threat of Confederate invasion, the state of Oregon raised only two regiments for Union service, one cavalry and one infantry. However, the state lost 11 men killed, primarily in skirmishes with Native Americans. Thirty-four others would die from various causes.
