June the 13th

Dear Wife

I seat my self this morning to let you no that I am well at this time and hope that this may find you injoying the same good -- of god Now Rachel I have not had but one letter from you sence I come here BB Decker sent one Back from the Regment Bearing date of May the 23d was glad to hear from you but was sorry to here that the pigs had rooted up your corn Now Rachel you dont no how bad I wont to heare from you if I dont get a letter next week I cant help it turn over Now Rachel I rote in father Macks letter all that is necissory about the Regment I just say that the rebels has left that long watched gap it is supposed that our men has gon around to cut off thare retreat I will give you a true statement of this when I ascertain more about it Now Rachel I am not able to tell you how long I will remain here rite to me here till you get a letter from me to rite someplace else I am able for duty now but I may be keep here 2 or 3 weeks we dont no these things soldiers has to go marching to orders I dont want you to be troubled about me But still remember me in your prayers Rachel I wont you to be religous and try to raise the children up in the nurter and admonition of the lord so if we dont see each other again in this world that we may make a unbroken famley in heaven Where trouble is a entire stranger turn over I send you a envelop ready backed to start a letter in to me start it on double quick Now Ellis rite how you are geting along I long to see the time when I shall supercede you on the old farm I must close I want you all to remember me while I am gone
