Camp cumberlan
April the 3 1862

Dear Wife

I snatch this opportunity to drop you a few lines as I have the chance to send them in B.B. Decker(1) letter I am in good health for which I feel thankful to god who is the giver of all good blessings Now my object in riting this is to let you no that Brother Maple(2) expects to start home in the morning and I am going to send you a ten Dollar Bill by him I rote to you in my last letter that I would send it By lieutenant Penic(3) I did not no then that Maple was coming home now if you get the money I expect you had better pay our tax I dont expect $10 will be enough to pay our tax if it does not if you can get the balance from some Boddy I will send the money to pay it as soon as I make another draw and that wont be a geat while if you pay the tax get the receipt and keep it Now Rachel I will let you no that B B and me done a hard eavnings washing yesterday eavning we made 40 cents and we also mad verry sore fingers Now I will quit till eavning Now I have ben for the first time to help burry one of my fellow Soldiers by the honors of war it was a solum scen his name is Benjiman Kesteron(4) we beried him on a beutiful mound in the river bottom I must close still remember your unworthy husban in your prayers I must quit and help get supper
