About Elisha M. Hanby:

Elisha Marion Hanby was in the Civil War 4 months, in Co. F, 53rd Ind. Infantry. He was 20 in Feb. 1865 when he enlisted with the 53rd Indiana Infantry at Dublin [Floyd Co. IN] and was sent at once to Indianapolis where he was in camp two or three weeks. From Indianapolis he went to New York City and was in camp on the waterfront one week when he was ordered South. He was enroute to join Sherman’s army in its march to the sea when he was ordered to remain at Wilmington, N.C.

He was postmaster for 4 years in Middletown, appointed in Cleveland’s first administration. He was a plasterer by trade, and a member of the G.A.R.
