Information from Andrew Jackson Stewart's obituary (thank you very much to Judi Schuerman for sending me the information and photographs of A. J. and W. C. Stewart and allowing me to use this wonderful information on the website!) Andrew Jackson Stewart was 16 years old when he joined the 35th Illinois Infantry. He was 17 when wounded in the left hip at the Battle of Pea Ridge. A. J. Stewart was born on October 24, 1844 at Bethany, Illinois and died at Nickerson, Kansas on March 21, 1907 from pneumonia and heart disease. He was aged 65 years, 4 months and 27 days. He was the 5th son of W.C. Stewart and Elizabeth A. Stewart. Andrew J. Stewart served as a Private in Company A of the 35th Illinois Volunteer Infantry from July 3, 1861 to September 27, 1864 when he was honorably discharged at the Muster out of the Regiment. Mr. Stewart suffered intensely from his wound he suffered at the Battle of Pea Ridge until his death. He also served from December 30, 1864 to December 30, 1865 in Veteran Bol. Company B 1st Infantry; and was also a Corporal in Company C with the 18th Kansas Cavalry during the Indian War of 1865.

Youngblood, William H. * Unknown * July 3, 1861 * Mustered out September 27, 1864 * Buried in Mount Hope Cemetery, Sidney, Illinois * Originally from Logansport, Indiana, but ran away when parents denied permission to join the army. He came to Sidney, Illinois, and joined Company A of the 35th Illinois Infantry with his brother Thomas While serving in Missouri, William contracted smallpox and was hospitalized in St. Louis, Missouri from December 1861-February 1862. At Resaca, he was hit by a shell fragment which severely injured his eyes. He mustered out with the Regiment on September 27, 1864 and in February 1865 he reenlisted in Company K of the 150th Illinois Infantry, and was soon placed on detached duty in charge of wagon trains. After a few months his eyesight began to fail. On January 16, 1866, he was mustered out of service. William returned to Sidney and engaged in the sawmill business until he became blind as a result of his war wounds. He died on July 29, 1918, and is buried in Mount Hope Cemetery in Sidney, Illinois
