Dear Van:
It looks as if your prediction was better than mine. When you left you told me I would be an admiral in a couple of weeks. Frankly, I did not believe it possible, but now that it has happened I want to thank you again for your long and loyal support. To me my advancement is merely a form of

recognition by the Navy of the fine work done by the CSA organization on the foundation laid by you and the others who joined its ranks in the early days.
I am glad to know you are enjoying your trip for it is well earned. Get a good long rest before you start to work again, for it may be a long time before you will have another opportunity.
With every good wish to you and your wife,
Sincerely,
J.N. Wenger
