I received a letter form you day before yesterday and was glad to hear from you again but was sorry to hear that you are unwell. I was on Guard yesterday and could not get time write (sic) on that account. I wish that I could be at home to break the colt this winter while the Snow is on the ground. I should like to train her first role(?). What will you take for the Colt as she is now and toke(?) you pay as I get it. I should like to buy her if she promises to make a fast horse, and a good looking one. I want to get a good horse if I can. I f I should buy her then I don’t want her broken untill (sic) I get home as I want to break her myself. I am going to the City tomorrow and I am going to get my pictures taken if I can get time.
Jan 27th. I went to Washington yesterday but did not get my picture taken as my head is pretty(?) Cold and I did not think I should look well. Our Guard duty is very hard at present and we have to go on every three days and do Fatigue duty between.
My health is pretty good at present and I never felt better but it will take me a long time to get my strength again.
When you write again let me know what you will take for the colt. Give my love to the Girls and Burnham(?).
