Dear
sister we avail ourselves of the foremost privilege of writing you a few
lines[.]The family are well
as usual we are enjoying as good health as is common for people of our age[.]Wm Dobbs and is
traveling a circuit near Montavalo Ala 100 miles from hear[.] He and Martha
were well[.]30th of April
everything in the way of food is very scarce here[:]corn
is $2.00 flour 7 & 8 cints bacon 25 to 30 cts per pound wheat looks
tolerably well[.]There
has been the most rain here for six [?] we ever recollect to have at seen
at this time of year[.]Crops
would be good if they could be worked[.]We
have not plowed more than a day or two per week in six weeks.Emory
is making a crop to himself[.]William & Henry
are making a crop for us[.]They
all came home from the war sound for which we feel very thankful[.]
Our relations in Madison were well a month or two since[.]We
were sorry to hear of the death of Brother Hackworth but rejoice that we
have good ground to hope that while we are left to mourn his loss he rests
happy in the Paradise of God where he is reaping the reward of his labor
with his departed friends & brothers & all who washed their Robes
and made them white in the Blood of the Lamb[.]We
do not weep as those who have no hope for if we believe that Jesus
died and rose again even so them that sleep in Jesus will God bring with
him wherefore comfort your lives [?] with these heavenly truths.We
would be glad if some of you would come and see us as often as possible[.]Direct
