Mr. Swain is here and I have an opportunity of sending you a few
lines, I will rite to let you know we are all well[.]William
Rigney is living in 3 mile of us[.]Him
and family are all well[.]Sister
Mary Byran[‘]s son William was here about too months ago[.]He
had been in the Battle of Shelbaville [sic] and was taken sick and
had been sent to the hospital at Rome gorgia [sic] to improve his
health and herd of us and came out to see us[.]He
states that his brother John died in Mississippi at Lauderdale Springs[.]Henry
was killed at the battle of Fort donnelson [sic][.]Sister
has but one son and daughter living[.]My
sons are all in the army together[.] The[y] belong to Harisons Brigade
Whortons division Co (B) 3rd Confederate Regiment.Shelbyville
Tennessee we here that the[y] are fiting thare and fawling back in
Jackson and Chatanuga[.]We
are all doing the best we can[.]Our
corn crop looks very well our wheat is very good wheat here is generly
very [?][.]I must bring
my letter to a close as Mr Swain is starting[.]Give
my love to all the connection and reserve a portion for yourself[.]Pray
for us and pray that this war may come to a close[.]Pray
for our children[.]
