The Melville Cox Follett Diary Page 44 and 45

day.

Still I do not hear from my furlough. I am getting tired waiting for it. Nothing new today. How strange it will seem to take to pick up this book when I get old and read what took place away down in Dixie.

Sat. Apr. 18th:

Rained all day. It was very welcome as we needed it. No change nothing new. Had quite a time down to the contraband ward.

Sunday l9th:

Weather in the morning was cloudy with some rain but about 10 o'clock cleared off and I accompanied Maj. Gill to church. Had quite an interesting time. Rec'd letters from Will Wilcox and N Ferris answered both.

Monday April 20th:

Sultry and hot. My furlough has come back approved and I am going Home. What pleasure that name rings on my ear. Who can tell the joys of home only those that have a fond mother awaiting them. I don't know as I shall come back a rational being. I am all ready drunk with excitement. I am afraid I shall not stand the shock. Home sweet Home there's no place like home. I leave kind friends behind but believe (all who read this) I would leave all on earth for a week with mother.
