Camp 123rd Regt., N.Y.S.V.

Bridgeport, Ala.

Nov. 14, 1863.

Dear Wife,-

I sometimes think my letters are not very interesting to you. Not from anything you write but because I cannot find or think of anything of interest to write. I write often so you may know how I am and what I am doing.

My health is good and everything is passing pleasantly. I weigh within two pounds of what I did before I was last taken sick. I tip the scales at 162 lbs., and that is very good weight for me.

Colonel McDougall has returned and is looking very well. he brought our Commissions with him from Albany. Robert B. Beattie has the 2nd Lieutenancy of our Company and feels very much elated over it. We cannot get mustered until Captain Culver returns. I have spoken to the Colonel about it and he says he will send for him right away. The Colonel appears to be pleased to get back to the Regiment.

I sent you in my last letter a check of $300.00. I write you now about it so if it does not reach you, you must write me immediately so that I may look after it. I was paid $400.12. I have paid all my debts and have money enough to last me two month,- that is, if board does not cost me any more than it does now.

I have not been from home long but would like to look in and see you all. We are having fine, warm weather now,- I suppose it is our Indian Summer.

Ever with love,

R. Cruikshank.
