Seminary Hospital, Georgetown, D. C.

Sept. 15, 1863.

Dear Mary,-

I remain in the hospital and have good board, which I have to pay for. I enjoy myself much better than I expected. I can go anywhere in the city without a pass but must have one when I go to Washington.

I walk out twice a day to gain strength. I am about the same as when I left home. I wish I might gain faster so that I could join the Regiment again. I know the men of the Company would like to have me with them. The most of them are from our part of town and I know how to manage them better than a stranger.

I have not received a letter from you yet. Do not neglect to write to,

Your affectionate husband,

R. Cruikshank.
