Camp at Pleasant Valley, Md.,

Oct. 27, 1862.

Dear Mary,-

Do not worry if you do not hear from me for a few days as

we have orders to be in readiness to move. We do not know when or where. I write you this so if you do not get a letter you will know the cause. The Army is on the move and we think it is to go into winter quarters but cannot tell. I intended to write to Mother this time, but receiving orders to move and knowing that you would be anxious if you did not hear from me, I write to you and will write to Mother again. I must close for my work will not allow me any more time.

With love,

R. Cruikshank.
