I was 5th Army, 85th Inf Div, 337th Inf Reg. I passed through Anzio AFTER the breakout, on June 3rd, and rejoined my outfit in time to march through Rome on June 4, 1944. I was in the hospital after being wounded at the battle of Castelonorato on May 15th.

Anzio was all screwed up, thanks to Genl. Lucas, and an apparent mixup in orders from Mark Clark, Genl. Alexander, and Winston Churchill. There are good books out regarding this fiasco, and nothing was accomplished until Lucas was relieved of command and replaced by Genl Truscot.
