War Production Board Poster: The New Man Needs Your Help

Original Title/Caption:  "The New Man Needs Your Help. Remember You Too Were Once a New Employee. Acquaint Him With the Work and Help Prevent Accidents."

 

Description: This World War II poster features cartoon drawings of an older worker and a younger employee.  The older worker appears to be directing the younger man.  The poster reads, “The New Man Needs Your Help,” and an arrow points to the younger looking cartoon figure.  The bottom of the poster reads, “Acquaint Him With the Work and Help Prevent Accidents.  Remember You Too Were Once a New Employee.”  In very small lettering on the bottom, right-hand corner, the poster reads, “Aluminum Company of America Print Shop.” This poster was produced roughly between 1942 and 1943.

Historical discussion: This World War II poster focuses on an important issue in workplace safety during the war—new employees.  Because of the incredible economic changes during the war, many workers took jobs in industries new to them, increasing the potential for accidents.
