Historical discussion: This outdoor sign told viewers that it was their “patriotic duty to avoid accidents and protect your fellow workers.”  The sign evokes patriotic feelings by using images like the American Flag and a Bald Eagle and weighted words like “patriotic” and “duty.”  Again, much of the American propaganda of World War II that focused on workplace safety sought to link the home front and the battlefield, making Americans at home conscious of their role in the outcome of the war.
