Prohibition

In 1933, the states ratified the Twenty-first Amendment to the Constitution, repealing Prohibition. With repeal, the cultural and political conflicts that had presided during the era of a well-intentioned but impractical law subsided, and Americans turned their attention to the crisis of the Great Depression and the hope promised by the New Deal.
