Republican Party

This May 1910 cartoon shows a disheveled President Taft emerging from a meeting, vowing to himself, "NEVER AGAIN!"

The sign in the background advertises that "President Taft will express his opinion on Woman's Suffrage to-night. Washington D.C. All are welcome."

After evaluating the rest of the cartoon, who do you think attended that meeting? Would you guess that Taft agreed or disagreed with their position?

Two years later, in 1912, the Republican Party did not address woman's suffrage in its official platform, and Taft made it clear that he opposed woman's suffrage.
