Although, as noted above, some African-American leaders maintained their commitment to
the Republican Party, others let their votes communicate their frustration with Taft and
his party. Taft's half-hearted and limited concessions to African American needs compelled
W. E. B. DuBois and others to condemn his tenure in office and to call for new leadership.
