wpe19.jpg (5980 bytes) Although, as noted above, some African-American leaders maintained their commitment to the Republican Party, others let their votes communicate their frustration with Taft and his party. Taft's half-hearted and limited concessions to African American needs compelled W. E. B. DuBois and others to condemn his tenure in office and to call for new leadership. The following is an editorial from a 1911 edition of The Crisis.
