Meet Dan Roberts
The Man Behind the Voice

If anyone can be described accurately as a Renaissance man, it would be Dan Roberts, executive producer and host of the award-winning

radio series A Moment in Time. Created to excite and enlighten the public about the past, its relevance to the present, and impact on the future. A Moment in Time is a brief, but captivating historical narrative broadcast worldwide each weekday.

Roberts created the show in 1993 while doing historical commentary for National Public Radio. The idea caught on and the public radio station in Richmond became Dan's partner in taking the show nationwide. Within each two-minute segment, Roberts sets personalities and events in their historical context. Each episode brings life to a topic of interest in an effort to ignite in listeners a passion for history. Today's "sound-bite" society requires no less.

After receiving a B. A. in history from Presbyterian College in 1969, Dan served as an officer in the U.S. Army, which included a tour in Vietnam, where he was awarded the Bronze Star in 1971. In college Roberts began training as a Presbyterian minister and completed his professional education at Princeton Theological Seminary in 1974. In August 1986 his work as a Minister was recognized when he was invited to serve as Guest Chaplain of the United States Senate.

In 1990 he obtained a Master's degree from the University of Richmond and then in 1997 a Ph.D. in British and American Colonial History from the University of Virginia. Roberts is a Professor of History at the University of Richmond with teaching and Administrative responsibilities in the School of Continuing Studies. He has also been a guest contributor and columnist for Education Week, USA Today, the Scripps-Howard Papers, and Media General's Richmond Times Dispatch.

Roberts is President of Broadcast Partner, LLC in which capacity he produces and hosts A Moment in Time and Climbing Jacob's Ladder: Milestones in African American History. These historical radio shows originate in Richmond, Virginia on public radio station 88.9 FM, WCVE and are heard by over 2 million listeners each day in over 3000 cities and communities throughout the United States plus 400 stations of the Armed Forces Radio Network worldwide. A Moment in Time is also aired on the English language broadcasts of the Voice of America.

Dan Roberts is a popular jazz pianist, singer, and an avid reader. In his spare time he enjoys biking, weight-training, and traveling to interesting places around the world doing research in his continuous quest to popularize history.

Dan has completed the pilot for a television program based on his popular radio show and a newspaper column, each of which will bare the name A Moment in Time. Roberts is a popular speaker on the national speaking circuit, bringing his vigorous lecturing style to corporations, organizations, and public gatherings around the country. Of all that he's achieved over the years, he maintains his proudest accomplishments are his three children, Heather Elizabeth, Kathleen Taylor, and Daniel III.
