Iraqi has made claims to Kuwait many times since 1938. On August 2, 1990 Kuwait was invaded by Iraq. After weeks of massive air strikes a US-led UN coalition force launched a ground assault on February 23, 1991 to free Kuwait. Four days later Kuwait was liberated.
