The Medieval Village
For most peasants in the Middle Ages, life centered around the village. The village was usually part of a manor run by a lord or someone of noble birth or a church or an abbey. Most peasants never ventured out of the village during their lifetime.

Jean Froissart - Medieval War Correspondent?
One of the defining events of the Middle Ages was the Hundred Years War that lasted from 1337 to 1453. One of the most famous chroniclers of that period is Jean Froissart. Could he have been a medieval war correspondent gathering information, talking to combatants and talking notes during the fury of battle?

The Duchy of Burgundy, Medieval Powerhouse
During the fourteenth century the French State was not cohesive and united. The existence of pseudo independent principalities created conflict and instability. The most powerful of these principalities was the duchy of Burgundy located between France and the German Empire.

The Ottoman Empire
Only 80 years separate the modern Middle East from the forgotten and long-lived Ottoman Empire. Over a time span of six hundred years, from about 1300 to 1923, the Ottoman Empire expanded into the largest political entity in Europe and western Asia and then imploded and disappeared into the back pages of history.
