Menes
  Category:   Egyptian King

  Born:   ?

  Died:   ?

Overview:   Reign: Began approximately 3150 BC
Dynasty: 0

Biography:   Generally accepted to be the ruler of Upper Egypt who conquered Lower Egypt and united the two kingdoms. However there is some debate over Menes being the "Unifier" due to the Narmer Palette and Narmer Macehead. The Narmer Palette was excavated in the late 1800's and has two sides. One side shows a king with a symbol suggested his name is "Scorpion" and/or Narmer wearing the tall white crown of Upper Egypt. The other side shows the king wearing the smaller red crown of Lower Egypt. Finally the Narmer Macehead shows king "Narmer" wearing both crowns symbolizing he is now king of both kingdoms.

It is also possible that Menes and Narmer are one and the same.
