Hellenistic Monarchies, Wars of the (318 - 170 b.c.)
 
Also known as:   Wars of the Diadochi; Successor Wars
 
Date(s):   318 - 170 b.c.
 
Description:  
      The sudden death of Alexander started a series of wars between his generals (the Diadochoi) that ended when the Romans came into power. The most important of the successors were Ptomely who ruled Egypt; Antigonos ruler of Phrygia (equivalent to modern day Turkey and Syria); Seleukos of Babylon; and Lysimachos of Thrace.
